The Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi Hotel – Our Complete Review & Guide

If you’re looking for a luxury 5* resort in Langkawi that’s not going to break the bank balance, read on… In this article, we share our complete review and guide to the Riyaz Lavanya Hotel, Langkawi. We stayed at this brand-new resort for 3 nights and were absolutely blown away by the quality of the resort, the grounds, service, and the breakfast offering.

At the time of writing, it’s still very much a new hotel, and because of that, there aren’t many reviews and information – but fear not, we’ll share everything you need to know. We’ll cover room types, facilities, restaurant options, information on the local area, and much more. We’ll also share some helpful tips and tricks for visiting and booking the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi. If you have a question and we didn’t cover it in our guide, be sure to post a comment or send us a message.

Location

The Riyaz Lavanya Hotel is in the quiet beach town of Pantai Tengah, only a 10-minute walk away from Pantai Tengah beach. It’s a popular place to stay for couples looking for a relaxing vacation but is also popular for families. The hotel is close to the main strip of restaurants, bars, and cafés, and around a 20-minute walk from the busy tourist area of Pantai Cenang. Its location has the benefit of being quiet and relaxing, with one of Langkawi’s nicest beaches. However, you’re only short walk or taxi ride from the many attractions and nightlife scene of the neighbouring resort area. You have the best of both worlds.

We specifically chose the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi due to its location. We wanted somewhere quiet, with a nice beach, but not too secluded from attractions, bars, and restaurants.

Upon arrival

As soon as you arrive at the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi, the doormen greet you and take your luggage while you check in at reception. As soon as we entered the lobby, the décor really caught our eye. It’s modern, fresh, light, and spacious, with plenty of relaxation areas. The receptionists informed us about the amenities available at the hotel, breakfast times, and the best part – the lunch! We booked a B&B option on booking.com and were pleasantly surprised to find out that a complimentary lunch buffet was included.

We would have liked to have had a welcome drink, as this is a given for any 5* resort in Malaysia, but I’m confident this is something they’ll address in the future, as the hotel becomes more established.

All the rooms at the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi are stylish and modern, furnished to a high standard. There are different room types on offer at the resort, including:

  • Studio
  • Junior Suite
  • Suite
  • Two Bedroom Apartment

You can find more detailed information about the different rooms on their website: https://www.riyaz-hotels.com/hotels/malaysia/langkawi/the-riyaz-lavanya-langkawi/rooms/

Top tips for booking a room

  • Request a room on the upper floors. You’ll get better views of the area, and rooms will generally be quieter. Equally, ask for a room with a sea view. Waking up to a view of Pantai Cenang Beach every morning is something special. It’s a lot better than the alternate land view.
  • If you’re celebrating a special occasion, be sure to email the hotel ahead of time, as they may be able to do something for you on arrival.
  • Compare prices on various websites before booking. We often find the best deals by comparing hotel prices on Tripadvisor or using Booking.com’s ‘Genius’ loyalty discount.
  • If you’re not a fan of heights, request a room on a lower ground floor as the hotel is a high-rise building.
  • Make sure breakfast is included in your room rate. The Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi offers an excellent buffet breakfast, and it’s a great way to save money on eating out.

Facilities

The rooftop swimming pool and jacuzzi

The Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi has one swimming pool, which is located on the rooftop of the hotel. The pool is a haven for relaxation and is the perfect place to relax after a morning out exploring Langkawi Island. The swimming pool has a tropical setting, with palm trees, day beds, and seating areas for those that want to grab some food around the bar area. We found the loungers to be very comfortable compared to many other hotels we’ve stayed in.

When we visited in January, the swimming pool was the perfect temperature – not too warm, nor too cold. In addition to the main pool, there’s a large jacuzzi bath opposite the shallow end of the pool.

Top tip: If the hotel is busy during your stay, be sure to arrive at the pool early to secure a lounger. They can fill up fast on a morning.

Spa & Fitness Centre

If you’re looking to do some exercise during your stay in Langkawi, the Riyaz Lavanya boasts a small but well equipped gym on its rooftop, opposite the pool area. The gym has cardio equipment, dumbbells, and assisted weight machines. Towels and mineral water bottles are provided too. As the gym is small, it can get quite crowded during peak times of the year, so we recommend working out away from peak times. Early morning, midday or late evening is best.

The hotel also has a spa, which is the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The spa offers a variety of different massage treatments and manicure services, along with sauna and jacuzzi facilities. We suggest speaking with the reception team to find out more information on the different treatment options available.

Pantai Tengah Beach

One of the best aspects of the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi is its location. The hotel doesn’t have direct access to the beach. However, it’s only a short walk away on a side path. Exit the hotel, turn right, and follow the dirt path 10-minutes to the beach entrance. Pantai Tengah has far fewer water sports providers than neighbouring beaches, so it’s a nice, quiet place to relax. Hire a sun lounger for a few hours, go for a walk or kick back in one of the beach cafes. We recommend checking out Ngopi Pantai Coffee Bar.

If it’s a little hot and you don’t want to walk to the beach, you can make use of the free hotel beach shuttle buggy. Enquire at reception to find out operation times.

Top tip: if you want to explore Pantai Tengah beach area, we suggest doing so first thing in the morning, or early evening. It gets incredibly hot during the afternoon and there aren’t many shaded areas on the beach.

Bars & Restaurants

The Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi hotel has two restaurant options and two bars to choose from. We tried all four venues and will share our thoughts on each below.

Flora & Fauna – all day dining

Flora & Fauna is the main restaurant area where you’ll be having breakfast and lunch. The restaurant is a spacious and modern space with pastel colours, pink flowers and an ‘Instagrammable’ design. We really liked the setting – in fact, it’s one of the best buffet restaurants we visited in Langkawi.

There’s lots of seating indoors, and an outdoor terrace area with nice views of Pantai Tengah Beach. The breakfast options are extensive, with fresh bread, pastries, continental options, and cooked dishes such as fresh eggs and sausages. Traditional Malaysian dishes such as Nasi Lemak are also on offer

Little do many guests know, you can also choose to dine at Flora & Fauna for lunch. The complimentary lunch runs throughout the afternoon, and whilst the offering is limited, we found the dishes to be very good.

Flora & Fauna is open from 6am – 4pm.

Japanese Restaurant & Zen Garden – KOKU

The second restaurant at the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi is KOKU. A stylish, dimly lit Japanese restaurant is the hotel’s newest addition. Serving iconic Japanese dishes such as sushi, chicken teriyaki and plenty of seafood options, it’s a great place to dine for a special occasion. With the black and red décor throughout, it has a real luxurious and exclusive feel to it.

KOKU wasn’t open at the time which we visited (January 2024) but we got to see the restaurant during our visit, and it looked very stylish. You may need to book a table in advance, so be sure to enquire at reception upon arrival for more information.

Lobby Lounge

The Lobby Lounge is located just opposite reception on the ground floor. It’s an open space tucked away in the corner, offering a variety of hot drinks, cold beverages such as soft drinks, wines and beers, and a small selection of food. It’s a quieter area compared to the rest of the hotel so it’s a good place to check out if you want some peace and quiet, or to catch up on work. The Lobby Lounge is open from 10am – 6pm daily.

Rooftop Bar – The Snail

The Rooftop Bar, also known as The Snail, is located on top floor of the hotel, next to the swimming pool. It’s an open bar area that serves pretty much any drink you could think of. Choose from a freshly made cocktails, fruit juices, milkshakes, beer, wine, and other spirits. The staff at The Snail often walk around taking orders, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the Langkawi sun. They also offer light bites and lunch options such as pizzas, wraps, sandwiches, and burgers. We found the rooftop bar to be very reasonably priced compared to other 5-star hotels we’ve stayed in on the island.

Pro-tip: the best time to visit The Snail rooftop bar is at sunset. Take advantage of discounted happy hour drinks and watch the sun set from the rooftop.

  • Make use of the spa and fitness facilities. They’re clean and modern, with many of the facilities included with the price of the room rate. You’ll only need to pay extra for spa treatments.
  • The hotel offers a transfer service to and from the airport. We found it to be quite reasonably priced. It’s a convenient and safe option for those who don’t want the hassle of ordering a taxi on Grab. You can book the transfer by emailing reception in advance of arrival.

Other things to note

Lobby area

The lobby area at the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi is one of our favourite areas of the entire hotel. It’s a large, relaxing, open-planned common area with plenty of comfortable seating. It’s a great place to chill out whilst waiting to get picked up. We enjoyed relaxing in the ground floor café area with a coffee on an afternoon.

Parking

If you’re planning on travelling by car, there is free private parking in the underground garage. It’s located in the main hotel building and you can easily access your room and the hotels facilities via the parking garage elevator.

Airport shuttle service

If you want to organise an airport transfer, either to or from the airport, you can speak to the hotel directly to arrange. It’s convenient and hassle free. We found the price to be reasonable too.

Meeting rooms/ working area

If you need to do some work whilst staying at the Riyaz Lavanya Hotel Langkawi, there are meeting rooms and various working spaces in the lobby area. The area is quiet, and they have power outlets to charge your laptop/device.

Our overall thoughts on the Riyaz Lavanya Hotel, Langkawi

The Riyaz Lavanya is an excellent new hotel in one of Langkawi’s best resort areas. Initial reviews on Google and TripAdvisor are very positive so far, and whilst we agree with some reviewers that it could improve in some areas, overall, it provides excellent value for money. It’s affordable compared to Langkawi’s other 5-star hotels, clean and brand new, making it a great choice for those seeking for those that want a luxury resort at a competitive price point.

The rooms are incredibly large and spacious, housekeeping was fantastic, and the breakfast selection is vast. We really had such a memorable time at the Riyaz Lavanya Langkawi and would love to return in the future.

Positives:

  • Rooms are modern, fresh, and light, with plenty of storage space.
  • The pool area is fantastic. The sun loungers are comfortable and the look and feel of the rooftop is luxurious, tropical, and relaxing.
  • The Riyaz Lavanya Hotel is very close to the beach. You can walk there in less than 10 minutes, or you can make use of the hotel’s free shuttle buggy.

Improvements:

  • As with most, if not all 5* hotels, you receive a welcome drink upon arrival, or a token to claim a drink during your stay. It would have been a good touch to have this at the Riyaz Lavanya. We didn’t receive any drink or welcome token during our stay.
  • When we visited, the hotel had recently opened, so the overall staff standards and service was a little lower than other 5* hotels we visited in Langkawi. Service can be hit or miss, though this could change over time as staff gain experience.
Our overall score: 5/5

For the price we paid for the Riyaz Lavanya Hotel Langkawi ($100 / 470 MYR per night), we thought it was excellent value for money for the quality of the hotel and its amenities. Prices may increase as the hotel becomes more established, so it’s worth compared all options for your visit.
